Who we are​

Melissa Qi

Staff of IT

Melissa is currently a senior at University Hill Secondary School. She has enjoyed music since little and has been playing piano for more than ten years. From her passion for music, Melissa has earned her RCM Level 10 piano and has earned gold in many Music Festivals. By expanding her musical passion, she has also picked up many other instruments as she currently plays flute in her school’s senior band, guitar, bass guitar, and enjoys playing the melodica as well in her free time. Melissa is honoured to be a part of the Sunshine Band Club as she can contribute to the magic of sharing music. She is eager to guide and make new connections with other musicians. Outside of school, she enjoys hiking (like a psychopath), editing videos, going on walks with her friends, and making ramen.

Ben Bai

Staff of IT

Ben is a grade 10 student enrolled at Fleetwood Park Secondary. He has ventured through the world of music, and has found passion and grew his roots in Piano. Now almost a decade has passed since Ben has started, having won many festivals and competitions along the way, ranging from small Fraser Valley all the way up to Vancouver festivals. And now he finds joy and comfort in passing on his experiences with others as a teacher and mentor. He is honored with the role of general staff, being able to help others grow, and be a lending hand, in helping everyone achieve their goals. Within his free time, he likes to dwell on the ever so expanding world of computers, and of course, does like to entertain himself with video games.

Karina Zhang

Staff of Media

Karina is currently a senior student at Sir Winston Churchill High School. A passionate individual for the art of music and poetry, she has been attending a symphonic band since she was 12, played in jazz band for 2 years, and has been playing the piano since she was 13. Although she began pursuing her interest in piano only when high school started with no previous experience, she worked her way up to the RCM 8 certificate in just a year. As the section leader for the euphonium section at her band, she is always happy to assist others, to cooperate as a team while expanding her knowledge in music performance. Formerly a Proof-reader in a youth-led writing organization, her literature has been featured in multiple book clubs and has won numerous (virtual and in person) poetry events. With a natural passion for artistic creativity, she is thrilled to be in the SBC staff team for managing media, and hopes to share inventiveness with the rest of the team while making new

Angela Qin

Staff of Media 

Angela Qin currently attends Moscrop secondary and is in grade 9. She has experience with playing the piano  and clarinet and previously played with her cadet band in 2019-2020. Though she doesn’t take piano lessons anymore, at times she’ll find a song she really enjoys listening to and learn it by herself during her own time. Angela loves listening to music from soft pop to classical music, she admires all different types of music. Angela is super excited to take initiative in the band and become a part of the staff committee. She hopes to learn more about music as well as build more relationships with others in the club.

Erryl Galang

Staff of Film Production

Erryl Galang is a grade 12 student at Guildford Park Secondary School. In the role of Film Production, Erryl is excited to contribute his editing knowledge to display the Sunshine Band Club’s diverse talent and skills through video concerts and single performances. Furthermore, He is excited to work with the other club members in hopes of making new friends and peers. While he doesn’t harness the musical prowess many of his peers have, his musical interest is expressed by the variety of music he listens to from swing jazz, avant-garde jazz, jazz fusion, experimental rock, and blue, just to name a few. In his free time, Erryl will spend hours listening to full albums, reading manga, and consuming grandiose films. In the future, he hopes to become a quantitative analyst which came from his interest in math and computers.

Tim Kang

Staff of Audio Production

Tim is currently a grade 11 student at Fraser Heights Secondary School. He is in love with music, listening to many different genres and enjoying the pleasure of finding exciting sounds. He is often fascinated by new melodies and special feelings inside a song. While he has experienced several different instruments, namely piano, ocarina, and guitar, he was always much more passionate about drums. Currently, he has played for three years, and plays in a church praise team. At home, he likes to play along with the songs he likes and drumless songs he can be creative on. As for hobbies, he likes to watch sports, finding interest in soccer, football, and baseball. He thinks that we are living in a time that will be missed later on, so he wants to live happily and enjoy the moment. He is currently looking forward to pursuing a career in computer science.

Brian Ko

Staff of Audio Production

Brian Ko is a grade 11 student at Fraser Heights Secondary, serving as a Staff of Audio Production. He has been playing the violin for around 9 years and is currently RCM level 10. He has also been playing the guitar for 3 years and is part of his Church band. His passion for music motivates him to put in extra practice and make his own music as a hobby. He is always fascinated by new genres of music and tries to incorporate everything he heard in his own playing. He is grateful that he has the opportunity to be a new staff member of the club and is determined to do his best at everything. In his free time, he likes to play video games, make music, play sports, and hang out with friends. He is currently looking to pursue a career in life science. Brian hopes that he can contribute well to the music community and wishes he can work alongside many musicians.
